You can help make your child’s first visit to the dentist positive and fun. Please refrain from using language that might increase anxiety for the child. Our office uses words with the younger children that convey the same message but are less frightening than traditional dental words.
We invite parents and guardians to stay with the child or teen during the first visit. At future appointments, depending on the child’s age, you may accompany them or allow our staff to accompany them through the dental experience. The very young may find having a parent present is reassuring while school age kids are typically confident enough to attend without a parent. Our goal is for your child to have a safe, positive dental experience while building rapport with and confidence in our staff. If you have other children with you and want to accompany your child to the clinical area, please bring along another supervising adult. This allows us to focus our attention on the child being treated.
At the first visit, depending on the age of the child, we most often will take a few x-rays, complete an exam, discuss our findings and treatment needs. If time permits, we may also be able to offer same day treatments such as cleanings and sealants. We want to respect your work/life schedule and to be the most efficient with the time you are in our office.
