Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery)

Orthognathic surgery is needed when the upper and or lower jaws do not meet correctly. This occurs when the jaw bones have not grown in a balanced manner individually or in relation to one another. Other situations that may require orthognathic surgery are in accident cases involving jaw or face trauma.

In the case of planned jaw correction, the patient will typically start the process with orthodontics to straighten the teeth so that once the corrective jaw surgery is complete all the components – teeth and jaws fit together ideally. This comprehensive process restores your mouth and face to its optimal health, function and esthetic balance.
